Most manufacturer sponsored takeback programs charge a processing fee and/or restrict the brands they will accept, but Dell and HP provide a home pick-up service. Store programs take a variety of brands.

This service picks up e-waste for ethical reuse and recycling from local residents and businesses (NYC only)!  The 4th Bin only does business with E-Steward Recyclers who uphold the highest standard of environmental & social responsibility.   They accept:

•Computers (laptops & desktops, servers) & Monitors (CRT's and LCD's).
• Printers (including plotters), scanners, fax-machines, small copiers under 40lbs.
• Large muti-functional copier, printer, and fax machines such, Panasonic, Xerox, Ricoh, Canon, Konika Minolta units. Please note special prices may apply.
• Network devices (routers, hubs, modems, etc.).
• Peripherals (keyboards, mice, cables, etc.).
• Components (hard drives, CD-ROMs, circuit boards, power supplies, etc.).
• TVs, VCRs, & DVD Players.
• Audio-visual equipment.
• Cell phones, pagers, PDAs.
• Telecommunication (phones, answering machines, etc.).
• Digital Cameras.
• MP3 Players.
• Toner.
• Uninterruptible Power Supply Batteries.
• Household Batteries (including, camera, cell phone etc.).
 
Ink and Toner Cartridges:

Staples offers $3 in Staples Rewards toward a future purchase of ink or toner when HP, Lexmark or Dell cartridges are returned to their retail stores for recycling.

Cell Phones

Verizon Wireless stores accept drop offs of old cell phones for the "Hopeline" program, to help domestic violence victims. The used cell phones are recycled or refurbished, with refurbishing proceeds going to purchasing new phones for victims of domestic violence, or to fund shelters and advocacy organizations.

Rechargeable Batteries

Drop off programs at Radio Shack, Home Depot, Best Buy or contact Call2recycle.org . Please contact your local store to verify.
 
Air Conditioners

Call 311 to schedule a pick up at curbside in NYC, 3 days prior to your regular recycling/collection day. Freon is recovered and components are recycled.

Books

Paperbackswap.com lets you trade hard cover, soft cover & audio books

Video Games

Visit your local store to trade-in your old video games and systems for credit towards the latest games, consoles and gear. Check www.gamestop.com for details.

Video & Audio Cassettes, CDs, Zip Disks, Hard Drives

Textiles & Clothing
